Chinese visas are typically issued for a validity of 10 years allowing for multiple entries for stays of up to 60 days per entry for U.S. citizens. However, that is not always the case. Your passport will expire within 18 months - typically a visa with a validity of 6 months or a year will be issued.
You are traveling for a conference - conference visas are typically issued for shorter durations, i.e. 6 months or a year.
You are not a U.S. citizen
It is important to remember that visas are issued at the discretion of the Chinese Government and as such there is no guarantee a visa will be issued or what the validity, number of entries, or duration of stay will be.
